  • Erik Carlson

    Founder/Director

    Erik Carlson is a Portland-based musician, educator, and founder of Electronic Music Club, a unique music program that inspires children to explore music production and develop their own creative voice. Known for his work as DoublePlusGood, Erik has been featured on NPR and toured extensively in the USA and Europe. He has taught piano since 2008 and co-founded S1, a nonprofit art collective where he developed a synthesizer library and taught synthesis classes. With a passion for education and the arts, Erik continues to make a lasting impact on his community.

  • Cole Johnston

    Administrator

    Cole Johnston is a digital producer, drummer, and electronic musician with over 20 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music degree from Western Oregon University. A dedicated music teacher, he combines his passion for rhythm and percussive elements with a fun, approachable teaching style to inspire young musicians and help them develop their unique voices. Outside the classroom, Cole enjoys discovering new music, spending time with loved ones, and indulging his love for B Horror movies. He is excited to share his passion for music and foster creativity in the next generation of musicians.

  • Caleb Carter

    Instructor/Education Coordinator

    Caleb is a skilled music producer and educator with a passion for working with children. With a background in elementary education from Walla Walla University and three years of teaching experience in the Vancouver Public School District, he brings a strong foundation in education to his role at Electronic Music Club. A proficient user of Logic Pro X, Caleb has over a decade of music production experience and has crafted more than 40 songs as part of his hip-hop duo, OfF.Brand. In addition to teaching, he works as a mastering engineer and producer, collaborating with Portland artists like Anthony Rivera. Caleb is dedicated to inspiring young learners and helping them develop their unique musical voices.

  • Xan Alphonse

    Instructor

    Originally from New Jersey and now based in Portland, Xan brings extensive experience and creative passion to EMC. With a background in commercial composing and sound design for major brands like Samsung, American Express, and Yves Saint Laurent, he combines technical expertise in programs such as Ableton, Da Vinci Resolve, and Final Cut Pro with artistic innovation. Xan has over a decade of experience in guitar and academic instruction, equipping him to create captivating music and effectively share his knowledge. His holistic understanding of entertainment and media enriches the learning experience, and he is dedicated to fostering creativity and a deep appreciation for electronic music within EMC’s dynamic environment.

  • Joe Brunning

    Instructor

    Joe has over seven years of experience with Ableton Live and uses it
    daily for music creation. His creative approach is shaped by a strong
    background in West African drumming and indie rock guitar
    performances. He is also a seasoned outdoor educator with extensive
    experience mentoring youth and teens.

  • Cole Hamel

    Instructor

    Cole studied Music Production & Recording Industry at Ohio University and has several years experience working with various audio application methods and software. These include 360 audio/video projects created for Medicare in Pro Tools, in-house audio/video productions for ACRN, several years mixing and producing in Ableton & Logic Pro X, as well as being a 2x recipient of the "Best Film Score" award from the Cleveland Underground Film Festival. Cole's background in childcare comes from being an assistant teacher with preschool-aged children at Meadow Park Children's Center. Through EMC Cole hopes to share his passion for music and its creation as an artform with his students. 

  • Emil Alphonse

    Instructor

    Emil Alphonse is a classically trained violinist and violist with ten years of experience and a strong ear for classical music. Currently studying in the Music Sonic Arts program at PCC, they are expanding their skills in music production. Their experience working with kids comes from years as a library page in the children's section, where they helped coordinate events. Emil has been using Ableton Live on and off since high school, exploring music production and recording techniques.

  • Stefan Reichardt

    Instructor

    Stefan is a producer, songwriter, performer, and music teacher with a Bachelor of Science in music technology from the University of Oregon. His passion for guitar and electronic music production began at a young age and continues to drive his work today, whether performing at local venues or producing and recording music for himself and other artists in his studio. Through private lessons and group classes at EMC, Stefan is dedicated to helping students discover their excitement for music and bring their creative visions to life.

  • Jon Nasrallah

    Jon Nasrallah (they/them) is a Portland-based multimedia designer, musician, and educator. Since 2016, they have performed and recorded as Casual Decay and played with various bands in Nashville and Portland. After working in healthcare and science education as an instructional designer, Jon shifted to music education in 2020, teaching electronic music production. They joined the EMC team in 2024 and also teach at the Portland Synthesizer Library.

  • Dalton Battin

    Instructor

    Dalton Battin has 3 years experience teaching audio engineering at both Portland Community College and Portland State University. They have been recording and producing music for ten years. They are the vocalist for local Prog Metal band "Malady".
