Malachi Graham and Ryan Linder are the Portland-based indie/electro-pop duo Small Million, weaving evocative production with sharp, introspective lyricism. Their music delves into intuition, inhibition, and the unpredictable turns of losing control. For Graham, years of chronic pain have reshaped everything from her voice to her movement, infusing the band’s sound with raw emotional depth. “Chronic pain teaches you to listen closely to yourself,” she reflects. “But it also means you’re often on the sidelines, watching—and pissed.” Linder’s cinematic production amplifies these tensions, crafting a sound that is both intimate and expansive, aching yet cathartic.
As longtime collaborators and sonic explorers, Graham and Linder will share insights into their creative process, breaking down how they use Ableton Live to shape their sound—from intricate vocal layering to dynamic synth textures and immersive production techniques.
